Greetings, Readers!

The spring issue of Apples 'n Oats is now in readers’ hands, with subscribers and advertisers having received advance copies. The new front cover features artwork by Mona Majorowicz, of Wild Faces Gallery in Rolfe, IowaMona Majorowicz, of Wild Faces Gallery in Rolfe, Iowa. Thank you to Mona and husband Mike for allowing the use of this print on the front cover. I am excited about Mona’s next article submission in Apples ‘n Oats. Without telling you more, I’m just going to say that it will be very special!

I am always looking for an interesting photograph for the front cover. Please consider submitting YOUR photograph(s) for consideration. The resolution of your jpegs or tiffs MUST be at least 300 dpi, and good contrast is an important feature. The larger the photo, the better. Low resolution photographs will not be considered for front cover material, as they will not reproduce well.

As always, various equestrian businesses in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and other locales throughout the Midwest have complimentary copies available for distribution. But if you are not able to find one for yourself, or if you are not willing to spend $3+/gallon for gas to find one, please feel free to contact me, and I will provide you with subscription information. Back issues are $5.00 apiece.

The next issue of Apples ‘n Oats, the summer edition, is traditionally the “calendar issue,” as clubs and organizations continue to develop their agendas for the year.

Calendar of Event inclusion in the print version of this magazine is FREE! As an added bonus to those of you who choose to also advertise your events, those entries will show up as BOLD, and in larger print than other entries in the calendar. It is my goal to make this calendar as all-inclusive and expansive as is humanly possible. But I need YOUR help. Please keep me in mind and continue to send your club’s and/or organization’s information as it develops. I really appreciate it (and so do my readers!). The calendar section in the spring issue was too large to print in its entirety, so from August on is featured here on the website. Advertised events through December are included in the print version of the magazine as well.

I hope to see many of you at the Iowa Horse Fair this April. Please stop by my booth and introduce yourselves, as it is always nice to know who’s reading my pages. Mary Claassen will also be featuring some custom jewelry at my booth. We plan on having a good time!

This website is kindly created and maintained by my son, Scott Eilers. Here you will find sample articles from the current issue, and a Past Articles section as well, where you can access a smattering of archived articles from previous issues. Included throughout are articles about health, nutrition, activities, legislation, training, first-person experiences, and so much more. There is something for everyone in Apples ‘n Oats!

The deadline for the summer issue of Apples 'n Oats is May 1, 2008. I expect the summer issue to be in people's hands before June 1.
